Harvard Business Review and Inc.

Dear Webster students,

You all have access to the “Passports” online library and use it in researching your projects for school as well as for entrepreneurial activities. The database is a truly vast font of knowledge and there are many amongst us who do not have time to explore all its contents. Therefore Webster Entrepreneurs is creating a new initiative that explores the different possibilities offered by “Passports”. Over the following weeks we shall be pointing out different aspects and contents of “Passports” that will be of great use in your studies. The first major asset we will explore is the Harvard Business Review database.

Harvard Business Review is a periodical that has, over a number of years, been the platform chosen for the publication of groundbreaking ideas by some of the most influential thinkers and scholars in the fields related to business and management. Thinkers such as Michael Porter, Peter Drucker or C.K. Prahalad are only some of the many who contributed to this magnificent source of knowledge, and it was on the pages of the HBR that concepts such as “balanced scorecards”, “core competencies” or “glass ceiling” were first discussed and gained prominence.

“Passports” bring you the unique opportunity to tap this enormous font of knowledge. Through the database listing within “Passports” you can easily locate HBR and gain immediate access to the complete database of HBR articles. The online HBR database contains in excess of 3000 articles, covering numerous topics connected to business and management. A direct link to the HBR database on “Passports” will be available on our website.

Not only will you be able to access the database but Webster Entrepreneurs shall also provide you with a possibility to consult the printed periodical of the HBR as well as the acclaimed entrepreneurial magazine Inc. These two shall combine wonderfully, while HBR will prove invaluable in providing you with the theoretical and analytical overview of major management issues of our times, Inc. will give you a practical hands-on analysis of real-life entrepreneurial projects that have caught the attention of the business world. These print media shall be available starting the end of November.

In order to assist our students Webster Entrepreneurs will provide access to the HBR database in the SPC (Student Project Center-3rd floor right wing), where our members will provide assistance to students who wish to use the database. As the SPC does not have fixed opening hours at the moment we encourage you to contact the Webster Entrepreneurs Management Team either in person or by e-mail so that we can arrange for your access to the database at the SPC. We shall be able to guarantee you access if you notify us at least two days in advance, working on a “first-come first-serve” basis. Request for access in shorter periods will be processed individually and all effort shall be made to accommodate your needs, however we cannot guarantee that this will always be possible, so we encourage you to plan your research and give us enough time to help you as best as we can!

This will give the students an opportunity to enhance the research relevant to their studies as well as research for their personal entrepreneurial projects. Webster Entrepreneurs encourages you to make full use of the possibilities offered by this, make yourself familiar with the use of the “Passports” database, as soon a competition is planned that will necessitate the full utilization of this magnificent source of modern knowledge!
